My career path: Having multiple pilots in my family, I remember growing up fascinated with airplanes. I wanted to know everything about how they were put together and how something so large could fly, which is eventually what steered me towards mechanical engineering. Upon graduating college, I had every intent to have a career as a mechanical engineer designing airplanes. However, as I became integrated into the industry, I realized I had talents and passions that differed from strictly engineering. I realized I enjoyed leading teams, driving change, and presenting aircraft to our customers. With a mechanical engineering background, I have a unique perspective on the aircraft and really enjoy bridging the gap between customers and engineering. Though I am still trying to figure out what path would be best for my newly discovered passions, I know I eventually want to be in a leadership role that is very customer-facing.
My interest in being a Regional Network Ambassador: I want to be a Regional Network Ambassador because I am curious to learn about other engineering disciplines within the industry and connect a community of Buffs together. I also want to empower more women to enter the industry, helping them discover just how powerful their presence can be. For instance, I was the youngest engineer, and the only female, in my building for two years. When I first started, people often disregarded my ideas or designs and I often felt like I wasn't good enough. I then made the decision to just be myself, and in doing so have really made a name for myself within my department. I don't think I am alone in how I felt at the beginning of my job and I want to be a resource for other females who are currently going through what I did at the beginning of my career.
Personal interests: My family owns a small business where we take people into the mountains on horses up near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. When I am not working, I spend a good amount of my summers up in the wilderness helping run the business. I also enjoy yoga, running, hiking and continuously learning. This spring I graduated with my MBA and am now working towards a real estate license.
