Dear CU Engineering students,

Earlier today, you received a message from Chancellor DiStefano about the change to our instructional mode to all-remote, effective with the start of classes on Wednesday morning. This change to remote instruction is of particular importance to our local community in Boulder County.

For everyone鈥檚 benefit, I want to reiterate key points from these communications:

• All undergraduate, graduate and law classes will be taught remotely.听
• Labs, studio and performance classes are remote, unless designated essential by college and school deans. Your instructor will clarify if this applies to your situation.
• Staff will continue to work on campus as currently assigned.听
• On-campus research will continue and is not affected by this shift to remote instruction.听
• Please visit the COVID-19 updates webpage, which has been updated with additional details, for more information.

This change does not apply to students and faculty at our partnership programs at Western Colorado University and Colorado Mesa University, who should continue to follow their local protocols.

I know this news may cause disappointment, frustration, anger or worry. It鈥檚 important that we keep checking in with one another through this transition and to reach out when you need more support, including to Counseling and Psychiatric Services if needed. Keep in mind you can call CAPS at (303) 492-CAPS at any time to receive support. This is an opportunity for us to practice boundless empathy, flexibility and understanding with peers, instructors, and with ourselves.

This step is important to gain the trust and confidence of our Boulder County community partners. Unfortunately, some of the news emanating from campus in the past few weeks has not inspired confidence in our collective commitment to social distancing and responsible behavior. As members of this larger community, our college needs to continue being a model of appropriate behavior.听
