In these unusual times, the School of Education is beyond grateful for our school partners and mentor teachers, who are helping student teachers navigate challenging times with strength, joy, and creativity in their classrooms. Each teaching team has a unique story. We asked some student teachers and their mentors what their partnership has meant to them, and here is what they shared.

CU Teach students find community and purpose working in virtual classrooms

With many K-12 schools switched to remote or hybrid learning settings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CU Teach partner schools and teachers have been particularly grateful to have support from CU Boulder students. The one-credit Step 1 (EDUC 2020) and Step 2 (EDUC 2030) education courses invite CU Boulder STEM majors to explore teaching and work with elementary classrooms.

CU Boulder scholars ranked among the most influential in bringing educational ideas to the public

In “Public Influence Rankings” released Jan. 6, two members of the CU Boulder School of Education faculty were recognized as among the nation’s top 200 researchers whose scholarship bridges academic and public audiences. Professors Kevin Welner and Bill Penuel were listed among national Edu-Scholar Public Influence Rankings.

They’ve discovered new ways to express themselves through digital tools, including a series of webinars covering some of the biggest issues affecting their lives — voting rights, the Black Lives Matter movement, COVID-19 health inequities, and more.

The School of Education and the Boulder Book Store are teaming up to host the virtual Children’s Book Festival on Monday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to noon. The event will feature an interactive panel with nationally known authors, and it invites teachers, K-12 classes, families, librarians — all who love children’s books.

Jesús Rodríguez is the new of Executive Director of the BUENO Center for Multicultural Education in School of Education. Rodríguez brings extensive experience as a school and district leader in Denver Public Schools and is an alumnus of the center’s College Assistance Migrant Program, Career Ladder Program, and Master's in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity program.
