Assistant professor at the University of DenverErica Chenoweth(MPolSci’04, PhD’07) won the 2013 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order. Erica works in the Josef Korbel School of International Studies and won the award for ideas set forth in the book she co-authored,Why Civil Resistance Works: The Strategic Logic of Non-Violent Conflict.Through their research of uprisings involving more than 1,000 people from 1906 through 2006, the authors learned nonviolent campaigns succeeded twice as often as the violent ones and that governments where peaceful resistance took place were far more likely to become or remain stable democracies.
