Freshman Tonje Trulsrud (ArchEngr’19) won the women’s giant slalom at CU’s Spencer James Nelson Memorial Invitational on Jan. 23. It was her second GS win of the season. … CU soccer player Sarah Kinzner (Bus’19) won a silver medal with the Canadian team at the 2015 CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship in Honduras. She started all five matches for Canada and scored two goals during the tournament. … Former CU wide receiver Darrin Chiaverini (Comm’06) is returning to the Buffs as co-offensive coordinator, receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. Chiaverini, who spent the past two seasons on the Texas Tech staff, was a four-year letterman with the Buffs. During his time at CU, the Buffs won three bowl games (Cotton, Holiday and Aloha), and Chiaverini remains in the top 15 for both catches and yards in the school record books. He also spent four seasons in the NFL. … The Detroit Pistons retired the jersey of former Buff Chauncey Billups (Soc ex’99) in February. Billups was the 2004 NBA Finals MVP, leading the Pistons to the title.
Runners (Up)
CU-Boulder’s cross-country teams, consistently among the best in the nation, finished strong at the 2015 NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky., in November, but fell short of the titles: Both the men’s and women’s cross-country teams finished second.
The men’s team entered the race as the favorite after winning the title in 2014 and holding the No. 1 ranking all season long. Syracuse edged the Buffs by nine points to take home the title.
“A tinge of disappointment is a good way to describe it,” Buffs coach Mark Wetmore said afterward. “Second place by nine points in this deep of a field with all of the All-American recruits, I feel proud of them.”
The women’s team was ranked second coming into the meet and finished behind New Mexico.
Senior Pierce Murphy (Film’16) was third in the men’s race, making him the top CU finisher. Junior
Erin Clark (EBio’16) led the CU women with an 11th-place finish.
