Two new colleges — the first in 50 years — are slated to become a part of campus.
Provost Russell L. Moore announced the intention to create a college focused on media, communication and
information. It will house programs in journalism, advertising, communication, film production/studies, media studies and information studies. It will incorporate the journalism program, which offers degrees to
800 students. The other college will be centered on the environment and sustainability, housing environmental science, environmental policy and environmental design.
“These proposed new colleges will create exciting synergies among related disciplines,” Moore says. “They will build on CU-Boulder’s programmatic strengths and excellence, attract new high-quality students and faculty and facilitate scholarship and teaching that will prepare students for careers in a wide range of exciting fields.”
Implementation committees will examine such issues as funding, fundraising, administration and curriculum development. The goal is to submit proposals for the colleges to the CU regents for approval within a year and to form the colleges and enroll students by 2015.
