The Sony RX10 is a robust mirrorless camera equipped with a one-inch sensor and a Zeiss lens. The camera has the capability to shoot both moving stills and beautiful video.

SD CardÌý
The RX10 uses a standard SD card. Verify that the SD card is a class 10.ÌýÌý
Open the cover and insert the memory card with the notched corner facing the bottom of the camera. Insert the memory card until it clicks into place then close the cover.Ìý
Formatting SD CardÌý
Formatting means that you must destroy all data on the card and assign a new file system that is specific to the camera you’re using. Formatting is a complete way to delete old files and reduce the risk of data corruption. As all data will be erased, it’s imperative that you back up the contents of the card on a portable drive before you format.Ìý

BatteryÌý
Open the cover located on the bottom of the camera.ÌýÌý
While pressing the battery eject lever, insert the battery. Make sure that the battery eject lever locks. If the battery is inserted incorrectly, then closing the cover could damage the camera.Ìý
Using the control wheelÌý
Turn the control wheel at the back of the camera to cycle through the menu settings. You can also press the edges of the wheel to cycle through the settings.ÌýÌý
To select a setting, press the center of the control wheel.
Attaching the lens hoodÌý
Use the lens hood to block or shade the Sun or other light source from causing glare or lens flare to the image.ÌýÌý
To attach the lens hood, align the red line on the hood with the red circle on the camera body. Then twist the lens hood clockwise until the Sony logo appears on top.ÌýÌý
When using the flash, remove the lens hood as it may block the flash, which could cause a shadow in the image.Ìý
When storing the camera in the case, flip the lens hood backwards as seen in the illustration above.
Shooting a Still Image
Frame your shot. To focus, press the shutter button halfway down and focus the lens. When the image is in focus, a beep sounds and the indicator lights.Ìý
Press the shutter button down fully to take the photo.Ìý
Manual Focus
As is crucial to any professional production shoot, every shot must be focused properly. Unless used for artistic effect, an image that is blurred or focussed softly will not be acceptable according to professional standards.Ìý
Operators are expected to focus using manual controls.
Turn the focus mode dial to select MF.Ìý
Use the Focus ring on the front of the camera to achieve the desired shot.Ìý
Press the shutter button down fully to shoot an image.Ìý
Peaking Focus Assist
Peaking is a form of focus assist that is intended to help photographers get their focus fast and easy. Peaking appears as coloured highlights to identify the parts of the image that are in sharp focus. The colours can be changed between red, yellow and white.

ISO
In basic terms, the camera’s sensitivity to light is expressed by the ISO number. The larger the number, the higher the sensitivity.Ìý
ISO AUTO: Sets the ISO sensitivity automatically.Ìý
ISO 64 – ISO 12800: Sets the ISO sensitivity manually. Selecting a larger number increases the ISO sensitivity.Ìý
Shooting VideoÌý
You can record movies by pressing the MOVIE (Movie) button.Ìý
Press the MOVIE button to start recording.Ìý
Press the MOVIE button again to stop recording.Ìý

To adjust the shutter speed and aperture value to the desired settings, set the shooting mode to (Movie).

Select the desired exposure mode.

The following settings for still image shooting are applied to movie shooting:Ìý
You can change the settings for ISO sensitivity, exposure compensation, and focus area while shooting movies.Ìý

While shooting movies, the recorded image can be output without the shooting information display by setting [HDMI Info. Display] to [Off].Ìý

PlaybackÌý
To enter playback mode select the Playback button under the control wheel.Ìý
Turn the control wheel to select the next/previous image. Press in the center of the control wheel to make selections.ÌýÌý
Deleting an imageÌýÌý
With the image selected, press the (Delete) button.Ìý
Scroll through selections with the control wheel, then press z.Ìý
To return to camera mode simply press the shutter button halfway down.Ìý
