Dear reader,
Lori photoI find one of the great pleasures of working in a college of media is keeping up with news trends. Often, our professors,Ìýstudents and alumni end up not only following the news, but also featured in stories about their research and work.
Ìý
That happened this week as Hurricane Florence made its way toward the coast of the Carolinas and a number of media outlets requested interviews with Professor Leysia Palen,Ìýwho studies how digital technology shapes disaster responses.ÌýHer work is featured in the fall print issue of CMCI Now, and due to the timeliness of her research, we decided to include to preview the story here,Ìýas we hope our friends on the East Coast remain safe.
Ìý
Speaking of timeliness, CMCI alumna Kim Christiansen (Jour'84) will soon be keeping you on schedule for your flights at Denver International Airport as the new voice of .
Ìý
Last fall, Kim, along with more thanÌý100 fellow alumni and friends, joined us at the college’s first alumni reception. We’ve decided to make this a tradition and hope you can join us on Friday, Oct. 26 at the evening reception before the Pep Rally on the Pearl Street Mall!

Warm regards,
