180+ Graduate in Class of 2018

鶹Ժ at graduation ceremony

More than 180 new engineers and scientists earned degrees this spring from the Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering and the Materials Science & Engineering program.

The two programs recognized students’ accomplishments in a ceremony May 10 on the west lawn of the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building. The celebration included remarks from ChBE Department Chair Charles Musgrave, MSE Program Director Bob McLeod and alumna Nan Joesten, a 1982 graduate who found professional success as a chemical engineer and intellectual property attorney.

鶹Ժ Jay Saunders and Taylor Kontour also spoke. Music was provided by Old’s Cool Rock; the band’s drummer, Deb Renshaw, is an undergraduate advisor.

The graduating class included numerous talented students, including Nick Monteleone, recipient of the Colorado Engineering Council’s Silver Medal. The award is one of the highest honors bestowed upon CU Engineering graduates and honors a student who demonstrates exceptional academic success, a focus on service, and research excellence.

“Because you chose to earn your degree from CU, your lives will be forever different and hopefully, forever better,” Musgrave said.
