We are excited to welcome Quatez Scott, Inclusive Pedagogy Lead, CTL; Kalpana Gupta, Professional Development Lead, CTL;聽Sarah Andrews, Teaching, Learning & Technology Assessment Consultant, ASSETT; and June Gruber, Faculty Fellow, CTL/ASSETT to our team!

Early feedback can be given throughout the first few weeks of the semester. Early feedback is important because it allows learners to have a voice in their learning experience. As well, it is important because it allows instructors the chance to improve the course and their teaching to then result in better student outcomes and success.聽

Hosted in the Spring of 2023, this micro-credential program provides professors, graduate students, and teaching staff with knowledge and skills to create inclusive and welcoming classroom spaces. This program aligns with one of the climate goals of the campus diversity and inclusion plan (the IDEA Plan), which aims to "ensure a curriculum that fosters intercultural competence and prepares critical thinkers who innovate through embracing multiple perspectives." The University of Colorado is pleased to join the CIRTL Network in Fall of 2022. Our graduate students and postdocs are able to access a host of workshops and courses across the network. The CIRTL Network provides nationally recognized standards聽 for training future faculty and professionals in core pedagogical arenas, such as active learning and inclusive teaching. CIRTL鈥檚聽 formalized structure provides baseline competencies for integrating research, teaching and learning and offers certification in three levels of accomplishment: practitioners, associates, and scholars.聽

Participation in this聽 nationally recognized program can enhance your practice, not to mention your CV. The Center for Teaching & Learning鈥檚 College Teaching in Practice (CTP) micro-credential prepares graduate student instructors, postdoctoral scholars, faculty and staff to enhance their teaching skills at the post-secondary level. Participants are required to complete the following requirements: teach two semesters, either as a TA or instructor of record; attend 10 hours of CTL trainings; complete 20 hours of disciplinary-specific professional development in teaching; perform two video consultations with CTL staff; have one classroom observation performed by a faculty member; and submit a teaching portfolio for review at the end of program. The Center for Teaching & Learning鈥檚 Principles of College Teaching (PCT) micro-credential offers聽 graduate student instructors, postdoctoral scholars, faculty and staff the opportunity to enhance their teaching skills at the post-secondary level. Participants are required to complete the following requirements: attend 20 hours of CTL training; complete three reflections designed to address the pedagogical theory of three to five of these workshops; submit a teaching portfolio for review at the end of the program and complete an exit interview with a CTL staff member to discuss their process and goals for the future. The Innovating Large Courses Initiative is a new program focused on supporting academic units to create sustainable change for learning in large courses at CU Boulder. The initiative aims to improve student success in these courses through team-based efforts and cross-campus collaboration. Stay tuned for updates throughout the academic year and for more information about our first annual symposium in Fall 2023 to hear from the course teams about their innovative strategies and findings to improve student success.
