Timothy White
- Associate Director for Research
Tim White is the Associate Director of Research of the Center for National Security Initiatives. Tim also serves as the Gallogly Professor of Engineering in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. Tim received his PhD in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering in 2006 from the University of Iowa. Thereafter, Tim spent twelve years working for the U.S. Air Force in the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory. At AFRL, Tim served in a variety of capacities including group lead, team lead, and technology advisor seeking materials solutions spanning basic (6.1), applied (6.2), and developmental (6.3) research. Tim is certified Level III by the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) as both a Systems Engineer and in Science and Technology Management.
Tim joined the faculty at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2018 as the inaugural Gallogly Professor of Engineering. Tim leads the “Responsive and Programmable Materials” Group (/research/rpmgroup/), pursuing research generally focused on programming functional responses in organized materials. Prof. White has published nearly 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. White is a Senior Member of the SPIE and has been honored with the 2019 Soft Matter Lectureship, 2016 Materials Research Society “Outstanding Young Investigator” award, the 2013 SPIE Early Career Achievement award, the 2013 American Chemical Society PMSE Division Award for “Cooperative Research in Applied Polymer Science”, and the
2012 Air Force Early Career Award.
