However, for some the high cost of travel to and from Korea can present a burden and personal funding for travel within the country can be nonexistent. Therefore this travel ‘topping off’ grant has been developed to defray travel expenses for students who would normally struggle financially to realize the life-changing experience of studying abroad, the soft-skill development which future employers find so attractive, and, most importantly, the chance to cultivate an in-person understanding of Korea, a country of strategic importance to the U.S.</span></p><div><table><tbody><tr><td><div><table><tbody><tr><td><p><span><strong>Eligibility Requirements</strong></span></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><span>* Enrolled as an undergraduate student in an accredited U.S. college or university.</span></p><p><span>* Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.</span></p><p><span>* Demonstrate a strong interest in Korea.</span></p><p><span>* Demonstrate financial need and a compelling explanation of how the travel grant award is important to them personally.</span></p><p><span>* Intend&nbsp;to enroll (or be enrolled) in a full academic term in<strong>&nbsp;</strong>spring 2025 or a full academic year studying abroad in Korea</span></p><p><span>&nbsp;</span></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><span><strong>Benefits</strong></span></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><span>* Travel grant of up to $2,000 USD awarded directly to the student.</span></p><p><span>* Upon returning to the U.S., an opportunity to participate in a panel discussion offered by the Society with other grantees to share insights on the value of studying abroad in the Republic of Korea.</span></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><em><span>This grant is made possible through the generous support of the CKD Kochon Foundation.</span></em></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><span>Please direct questions to Linda Tobash at&nbsp;</span><a href="mailto:linda.tobash@koreasociety.org" rel="nofollow"><span>linda.tobash@koreasociety.org</span></a><span>.</span></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p class="text-align-center"><span><strong>DEADLINE TO APPLY: NOVEMBER 30TH</strong></span></p><p class="text-align-center"><span><strong>CLICK&nbsp;</strong></span><a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2F6b8czdeab.cc.rs6.net%2Ftn.jsp%3Ff%3D001Ob1fkw6zN4_7K_EAlOwPkuEu1rDi1lNdTt-11m3gxRIaQ3Aps-R3WGF6CIf81mAIqnVrE1aQRU-54jDyAaQ-C5BZDyiqHLV5EME_mKtMXQ36luenQquZi1sI-l9xh0NhkeSvL0sfoqXkbDKKVCcJHKXK92-51BgjO7o8pUyvl8wjZjXD1schKZNQZ1KPppX19wOV4dJBdHVvqaiu55j5k5HjS1dTkg8SHG5EqbipGPbwN_pmhvZPCHYNIrEvn82r6EKFQWrkhw4%3D%26c%3DXECdxxv4AiaQ0vO1a651pxvNzm_-hN-SOo8aLN5WBKdpV1uyKtfeBg%3D%3D%26ch%3D0k1iWSjHu-IOze0OpaOiwFgfU7ZV9y-myAv5apBSakDWY-NDpbtElg%3D%3D&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cliza.williams%40Colorado.EDU%7Cca6c739aeb194a4dc7e008dcfcfcb4d0%7C3ded8b1b070d462982e4c0b019f46057%7C1%7C0%7C638663409493827763%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=AP7SCYfhk4MKefgbO91aVrzY5dFOw4mIYteE%2Fpt8nhM%3D&amp;reserved=0" rel="nofollow"><span><strong>HERE</strong></span></a><span><strong> TO APPLY</strong></span></p></td></tr></tbody></table></div></td></tr></tbody></table></div><p class="text-align-center">&nbsp;</p><div><p>&nbsp;</p></div></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Mon, 04 Nov 2024 19:42:10 +0000 Elizabeth Williams 7745 at /cas Applications Are Open for the 5th China-America Student Conference! /cas/2024/11/01/applications-are-open-5th-china-america-student-conference <span>Applications Are Open for the 5th China-America Student Conference!</span> <span><span>Elizabeth Williams</span></span> <span><time datetime="2024-11-01T11:32:56-06:00" title="Friday, November 1, 2024 - 11:32">Fri, 11/01/2024 - 11:32</time> </span> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/cas/taxonomy/term/561" hreflang="en">Bulletin Board</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-text" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p dir="ltr"><span>The China-America Student Conference (ChASC) is a student-led exchange program, initiated in 1934 by university students concerned by the breakdown of bilateral relations prior to the Second World War. If you are graduating before the summer within two years (2023) or recently entered college, you are still eligible to apply. Please note which delegation you want to apply for as there are only 10 open spots on each side. Applicants interested in becoming a member of the American Delegation for the in-person conference must have a valid U.S passport and will need to apply for and acquire a Chinese visa prior to the start of the program. (ChASC Executive Committee will assist in providing letters).</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>ChASC welcomes applications from students of all academic majors to foster a deeper, interdisciplinary exchange. As the official language of the conference is English, no prior experience in Mandarin or Asian studies is required. Those interested in serving as a member of the Chinese delegation should be comfortable actively contributing to scholarly discussions conducted entirely in English.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>Why ChASC?</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>Lifelong Friendships | Cross-Cultural Communication | Personal Development</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>ChASC is unique in that it is entirely student-run and student-led in nature. The 5 Executive Committee Members, elected by their peers at the end of the 4th ChASC, determine the conference theme, roundtable topics, programming, and oversee the day-to-day logistics of conference planning and execution.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>This aspect of ChASC allows delegates to delve into topics that are of interest to them and empowers them to discuss pressing issues. This helps them recognize issues they may one day be tasked with as the next generation of U.S.-Asia leaders.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>Delegates will not only develop strong cross-cultural communication skills through their interactions with their peers, but will also have numerous opportunities to network with leading officials, academics, and distinguished professionals in the public and private sectors, as well as prominent business leaders and key figures in the field of U.S.-China relations.</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>By balancing opportunities for personal, intellectual, and professional growth, ChASC encourages delegates to realize their keen ability to spark meaningful change on the world stage and within their local communities alike.</span><br>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr"><span>Academic Interchange</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>An indispensable component of all ChASC gatherings are the Roundtables, or RTs for short. During the Conference, delegates conduct original, personal research alongside their academic cohorts. Each RT is made up of an equal number of Chinese and American delegates to ensure a balanced exchange of cultural perspectives. Through these intensive discussions on meaningful subjects, participants gain a more nuanced understanding of their international counterparts and actively develop real world solutions in the context of the U.S.-China relationship.</span></p><p dir="ltr">&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr"><span>Roundtable topics for the 5th ChASC include:</span></p><ul><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr"><span>Global Governance</span></p></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr"><span>Perspective and Society</span></p></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr"><span>Agriculture and Environment</span></p></li><li dir="ltr"><p dir="ltr"><span>Language and Cultural Heritage&nbsp;</span></p></li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr"><span>Questions?</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>For questions or additional information, please visit our </span><a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fiscdc-org.dmailroute.net%2Fx%2Fd%3Fc%3D43452998%26l%3Dc7a7fa73-c294-4eec-a979-cc8185122a38%26r%3De95a390f-591d-40dd-9a45-11d4b467f4f0&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cliza.williams%40Colorado.EDU%7C08b7bbeb6c054ba7907308dcfa94ece5%7C3ded8b1b070d462982e4c0b019f46057%7C1%7C0%7C638660764797731978%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=bxtQDqb23Otg6VApk3vlZscIfIrdU5rJPnYrQPy5oLs%3D&amp;reserved=0" rel="nofollow"><span>linktree</span></a><span>, </span><a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fiscdc-org.dmailroute.net%2Fx%2Fd%3Fc%3D43452998%26l%3D75befc75-1dae-4f16-b9f0-c774e914bc3d%26r%3De95a390f-591d-40dd-9a45-11d4b467f4f0&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cliza.williams%40Colorado.EDU%7C08b7bbeb6c054ba7907308dcfa94ece5%7C3ded8b1b070d462982e4c0b019f46057%7C1%7C0%7C638660764797768610%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=x3E3tyIh3xSUzuU7N%2Btg5S3JHPGc5qbHwkW4zcar3N4%3D&amp;reserved=0" rel="nofollow"><span>website</span></a><span>, or email </span><a href="mailto:chasc@iscdc.org" rel="nofollow"><span>chasc@iscdc.org</span></a><span>&nbsp;</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>Follow our social media for live updates:</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>Instagram (@chasc_official)</span></p><p dir="ltr"><span>LinkedIn (chasc_official)</span></p><p><br>&nbsp;</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Fri, 01 Nov 2024 17:32:56 +0000 Elizabeth Williams 7742 at /cas Opportunity for Emerging Translators: 2025 ALTA Emerging Translator Mentorship Program /cas/2024/10/31/opportunity-emerging-translators-2025-alta-emerging-translator-mentorship-program <span> Opportunity for Emerging Translators: 2025 ALTA Emerging Translator Mentorship Program</span> <span><span>Elizabeth Williams</span></span> <span><time datetime="2024-10-31T09:00:58-06:00" title="Thursday, October 31, 2024 - 09:00">Thu, 10/31/2024 - 09:00</time> </span> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/cas/taxonomy/term/561" hreflang="en">Bulletin Board</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-text" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><div><p>I'm writing from the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) to send a friendly notice that might be of interest to your&nbsp;communities about the 2025 ALTA Emerging Translator Mentorship Program, which is&nbsp;<a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Falta.submittable.com%2Fsubmit&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cliza.williams%40Colorado.EDU%7Cb11e3d4f55064dfe2f0908dcf9bc128e%7C3ded8b1b070d462982e4c0b019f46057%7C1%7C0%7C638659833365686240%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=49CH66%2FsDwHm51LhhyFmLcx9gWZcMeELEPcReoI3ddo%3D&amp;reserved=0" rel="nofollow">open for applications</a>&nbsp;until&nbsp;<strong>November 30</strong>&nbsp;(that's 1 month from today)! In addition to advancing their own research project, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the intellectual community of Southeast Asian Studies at UNC, including presenting their work at an annual UNC Southeast Asia workshop, and, dependent on approval from the scholar’s department and dean, teach one course per academic year related to the theme of the position.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Link:&nbsp;<a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Func.peopleadmin.com%2Fpostings%2F286589&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cliza.williams%40Colorado.EDU%7C8af7af476acc4f411ce008dcd997478d%7C3ded8b1b070d462982e4c0b019f46057%7C1%7C0%7C638624490962733708%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=QcwGDsTOYQOLUGfelMMyKsg5FI0GG%2B2SWT0FxEKs884%3D&amp;reserved=0" id="OWA1c67c76e-8479-b5b0-78b0-82c431951200" rel="nofollow">https://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/286589</a></p></div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-right col-lg"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Fri, 11 Oct 2024 15:14:07 +0000 Anonymous 7722 at /cas 2024 AIIS Fellowship Competition /cas/2024/10/10/2024-aiis-fellowship-competition <span>2024 AIIS Fellowship Competition</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2024-10-10T09:15:39-06:00" title="Thursday, October 10, 2024 - 09:15">Thu, 10/10/2024 - 09:15</time> </span> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/cas/taxonomy/term/561" hreflang="en">Bulletin Board</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default 3"> <div class="ucb-article-row-subrow row"> <div class="ucb-article-text col-lg d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><table><tbody><tr><td><table><tbody><tr><td><table><tbody><tr><td><h2>2024 Fellowship Competition</h2><h4>Deadline: November 15, 2024</h4><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p><a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Findiastudies.us10.list-manage.com%2Ftrack%2Fclick%3Fu%3Dfe21a5d7cb3ef9eb97a63a1e4%26id%3D0b89f0c8c4%26e%3Dde19b21818&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cliza.williams%40Colorado.EDU%7Cc9d5059399c04fabc09b08dce8d4391c%7C3ded8b1b070d462982e4c0b019f46057%7C1%7C0%7C638641245418750796%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=KghjeEFB0J4WhHYP0S%2BTSoP7x2aZw9lVCsP%2BSo8Ukcc%3D&amp;reserved=0" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><strong>American Institute of Indian Studies</strong></a>&nbsp;(AIIS) Research Fellowships to India are available for doctoral dissertation research, scholarly research for&nbsp;PhD-holders, and professional development.<br><br> AIIS invites applications from scholars, professionals, and artists from all disciplines who wish to conduct research or carry out artistic projects in India in 2025- 2026.<br> &nbsp;</p></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table><p>&nbsp;</p><table><tbody><tr><td><table><tbody><tr><td><p><a href="https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Findiastudies.us10.list-manage.com%2Ftrack%2Fclick%3Fu%3Dfe21a5d7cb3ef9eb97a63a1e4%26id%3Dd3266eb9ba%26e%3Dde19b21818&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cliza.williams%40Colorado.EDU%7Cc9d5059399c04fabc09b08dce8d4391c%7C3ded8b1b070d462982e4c0b019f46057%7C1%7C0%7C638641245418766607%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=va5S0cponegkum6AnlYJ%2BtGlU37OVn2pyMGLSX5GPOc%3D&amp;reserved=0" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><strong>More Info &amp;
