Research Interests

Jae-Eun Park is an associate professor in the Division of Global Studies at Kangnam University. Using a conversation analytic framework, she has worked with Korean conversation data to uncover the mechanisms that underlie human interaction. Her research has widened to understand technology-mediated interactions, with a recent publication examining a newly observed phenomenon of visual references in online conversations. Park has also been interested in analyzing nonnative discourse in and outside second/foreign language classrooms. Her research has covered various topics, including the dichotomy between native and nonnative speakers, as well as the classroom practices of language teachers.

At CU, Park is exploring how conversation analysis can be used in developing an AI-driven conversation program for Korean language learners.
