Benefits of Bilingualism - event
Please join the Office for Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion and Be Well as we welcome Dr. Pui Fong Kan for Benefits of Bilingualism.
Pui Fong Kan, Associate Professor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences leads this speaking engagement that explores the benefits of bilingualism, specifically the advantages of learning a home language. Many bilingual individuals in the US learn a home language (also known as a "minority language") at home (e.g., Spanish) and use English in school settings. Maintaining a home language can have numerous benefits, such as facilitating English learning, improving academic performance, fostering identity, and enhancing overall well-being.
