The 30thÌýCentral Association of Teachers of Japanese (CATJ 30) will be hosted jointly by DePaul University and Purdue University on Saturday, April 20, 2024. The CATJ 30 will be an in-person conference atÌý, the heart of Chicago's culture and academic scenes.ÌýÌý

The conference theme is "Collaboration across Interdisciplinary, Communities, Borders, and Languages," seeking to bring together Japanese language professionals from the Midwest region and beyond across the US and Canada and build rich, diverse contexts across schools, regions, and countries. We invite proposalsÌýrelated to the central theme as well as those in the following topic strands:Ìý

  • Bilingualism/PlurilingualismÌý
  • Corpus LinguisticsÌý
  • Language and TechnologyÌý
  • Language TestingÌý
  • LinguisticsÌý
  • PedagogyÌýÌý
  • Second Language AcquisitionÌý
  • Teacher’s training/educationÌýÌý
  • TranslationÌýÌý

Dr. Yoshiko Mori, Professor of Japanese at Georgetown University andÌýPresident-Elect ofÌýthe American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ), will be a plenary speaker.ÌýÌýÌýÌý

Presentation Details:Ìý

Presenters will have 20 minutes for their presentation, followed by a 10-minute question and answer period. Presented papers will be published in the CATJ online proceedings.ÌýWe encourage graduate students and junior faculty to submit proposals as to build their experience in a conference presentation and receive constructive feedback in a more cordial and casual setting of the regional conference.ÌýÌýÌý

Financial Supports for Graduate Â鶹ÒùÔº and Junior Faculty:Ìý

Small stipends would be provided for presenters who are graduate students or junior faculty member (who have been teaching Japanese full-time at K-16 institutions for less than two years). The fund availability depends on the grants awarded for the conference organization committee. The details will be announced later around the time of the proposal acceptance.Ìý

Submission Guidelines: ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý

  • The submission deadline isÌýDecember 23, 2023 (Sat) 11:59 pm (CST)Ìý
  • Submit your proposal either in Word or PDF format.Ìý
  • The length of the proposal is 300 words maximum for abstracts written in English and 700 words for Japanese.Ìý
  • Do not include your name in your proposal.Ìý
  • You may submit only ONE abstract as either a single or joint author.Ìý
