Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme aims at attracting the best students to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong’s tertiary institutions. ÌýNew applicants to full-time PhD programs in government-funded institutions in Hong Kong, irrespective of their country of origin and ethnic background, are eligible to apply. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding academic performance, research ability/potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities. Successful PhD fellowship awardees will receive an attractive monthly stipend plus conference grants from the Research Grants Council.

The new HKU Presidential PhD Scholarship Program (HKU-PS) works on the same principle with more attractive packages.

Candidates admitted through the HKU Main Round without the two prestigious fellowships will receive the normal university scholarship which is also quite generous.Ìý
