Biography
Dr. Rosse teaches and conducts research in the areas of Human Research Management and Organizational Behavior at the University of Colorado Boulder’s Leeds School of Business. Professor Rosse has particular interests in job satisfaction and in employee hiring systems. In the area of job satisfaction he is particularly interested in how people react to being dissatisfied at work, and what organizations can do to both reduce dissatisfaction and to encourage positive responses to the problems that employees encounter. In the area of employee selection, much of his work has focused on developing improved hiring systems for smaller businesses and organizations with less well developed internal HR functions. Dr. Rosse is an author of three books written for working managers, in addition to over 70 papers published in scholarly journals and books.
At the broadest level, Dr. Rosse's research interests involve the integration of organizational science theories and research--through both field research and application—with organizational practice. To accomplish this goal, Rosse is a founding Fellow of the Center for the Integrative Study of Work, created to facilitate the development of interdisciplinary, private-public research teams that address fundamental, basic and applied research questions dealing with science of work.
In addition to his academic experience Dr. Rosse has worked with the IBM Corporation, both at the Corporate Personnel Research group in Armonk, NY and with the Printing System Division in Boulder, CO. He has consulted with numerous companies, large and small, private- and public-sector, on issues related to effective hiring, performance appraisal, and employee satisfaction. He has been certified by the Human Resource Certification Institute as a professional in Human Resources (PHR) and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, the Associate for Psychological Science, the Academy of Management and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
Dr. Rosse is also Faculty Director of the Office of Research Integrity, where he manages a staff of 7 and has oversight responsibility for research regulatory compliance on the Boulder campus. In 2009, he was elected as chair of the Boulder Faculty Assembly, in which role he worked with senior campus leadership in shared governance of the Boulder campus.
