Staff Spotlight: Prove You Have the Entrepreneurial Mindset with Katie Morton and the Entrepreneurship Certificate
How many decisions do you make a day? One hundred, one thousand, more? Making decisions is a part of life, but those with an entrepreneurial mindset add a creative flare that gives them an edge and makes an impact. Entrepreneurship is the process of taking advantage of a unique combination of resources to leverage an opportunity. This means taking a creative approach to everything you do! Anyone can be entrepreneurial-minded. Whether you are creating a business (entrepreneur) or improving upon systems within a business (intrapreneur), the problem-solving mindset of an entrepreneur can lead you to success.
Thanks to the Certificate in Entrepreneurship Studies provided by the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder), students can access a plethora of resources to pursue anything entrepreneurial. , a recent CU Boulder graduate, credits the program as the “best resource he had during his time as a buff”.
While gaining his entrepreneurship certificate, Ethan met his future co-founders and launched . Ethan’s story is one of many that highlight how earning your entrepreneurship certificate can lead to long-term success. He says
“any aspiring entrepreneur will find a community of supportive and driven students and faculty at Deming. The connections I made have been invaluable, and I know I will always have a special place at Leeds.”
Program Coordinator Katie Morton
The Deming Center for Entrepreneurship recently welcomed Katie Morton as their new Program Coordinator and head of their Certificate in Entrepreneurship Studies. As the go-to resource for all undergraduate students exploring entrepreneurship, Katie is passionate about helping students navigate their entrepreneurial journeys and making sure students enjoy the benefits the program has to offer.
Katie is also more than just an expert in entrepreneurship. She grew up near Boulder and has hiked every trail the city has to offer. She received a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Affairs from CU Boulder and is excited to be back on campus. When asked about what she loves most about Boulder, Katie says,
"It is so easy to fall in love with Boulder. The thing that I love the most is access to the outdoors and trails, but also the culture on campus is really fun. People are really passionate, and everyone has something that they’re working on or they’re excited about.”
Certificate in Entrepreneurial Studies
Anyone associated with the Leeds School of Business can earn a Certificate in Entrepreneurship. Whether you are a business major or minor, you can earn your certificate after completing the following requirements:
- Complete a 60-hour internship
- Attend networking and professional events
- Take entrepreneurship classes
- Complete an exam to showcase your entrepreneurial mindset
When asked about their experiences with these requirements, students mention that
