Accomplished business executive brings passion, experience and personal connection to the mission
DENVER, Colo. – The March of Dimes today announced it has appointed Kathryn Marshall as its new state director for Colorado. Marshall (a longtime Boulder resident and University of Colorado alum) most recently served as the chair of the March of Dimes Denver-area board of directors and has been a longtime fundraiser and supporter of the organization.
Marshall was founder and president of Blue Tiger Group, a Boulder-based business consulting firm specializing in helping businesses improve operations and financial results, and uncover new growth opportunities. Prior to Blue Tiger Group, Marshall was a co-owner and chief operating officer of 104 West Partners, a communications firm specializing in breakthrough strategies. Under her co-leadership, 104 West grew into Denver’s largest technology-focused public relations firm in less than six years.
Marshall ('96 finance) currently serves on the board of advisors of the University of Colorado Boulder's Leeds School of Business. She is also an advisory board member for Downing Street Communications, a communications consultancy.
“Kathryn is an extraordinarily well-rounded business executive who has experience leading all major functions of an organization,” said Clifford Jack, executive vice president and head of retail for Jackson National Life Insurance Company and chair of the March of Dimes Colorado chapter board. “Her deep understanding of business combined with her passion for leading an organization that has had a direct impact on her family made her the clear choice as our new state director. Our board looks forward to working with Kathryn to strategically develop new opportunities to fund research, services, education and advocacy that improve the health of mothers and babies.”
As state director, Marshall will oversee all aspects of the March of Dimes in Colorado from programs, public affairs and marketing to events, fundraising, operations and volunteer development. Her statewide responsibilities include oversight of the Denver, southern Colorado and Western Slope divisions. “Her leadership will help inspire and motivate thousands of volunteers located throughout the state and garner support for key public policy,” Jack added.
“The March of Dimes is widely regarded as one of America's most notable and accomplished nonprofit health organizations, having established its roots under President Roosevelt,” said Marshall. “I am honored to lead the organization in Colorado. The rich history of the March of Dimes and the incredible milestones it has achieved over its nearly 75-year history directly affect the health and lives of millions of people today. I am enthusiastic about the opportunities to find new ways to secure the resources and public support we need to fund lifesaving research and deliver programs and services to the community.”
Marshall has been a March of Dimes volunteer since 2006. She has served as chair of the Prematurity Awareness Month campaign and was named an outstanding March of Dimes volunteer leader in 2008. The mother of a child born prematurely, Marshall is an advocate for prematurity awareness and special needs children.
Marshall replaces longtime Colorado chapter state director Shelly Goodchild, who was promoted within the nationwide March of Dimes organization to a region-level position.
