Office Assistant

Job Description

Office Assistants are student employees who perform tasks crucial to UEP’s functioning, including event planning, social media and communications updates, and Norlin Scholar selection process support. They gain office skills and learn what it means to work in a higher education context. UEP student employees are hired, supervised and evaluated by the Office Manager. The term of employment is the academic year, contingent on satisfactory performance, from Fall through Spring semesters, typically for 9-16 hours/week around the student’s academic schedule. Single semester and summer opportunities are occasionally available.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reception--greet visitors, provide phone and front desk reception 
  • Event Planning--assist with all levels of event planning management, including researching event options and locations, tracking registration, preparing event materials and participating in event debriefing.
  • Norlin Scholar Selection Process--assist in coordination of application and selection process
  • Social Media and Communications--write weekly digest, maintain listserv, and provide website updates and maintenance
  • Office Accounting--research purchases and assist in procurement allocation processes
  • General office duties—maintain a clean and organized office, manage and respond to email, track suite usage, monitor office supplies, run campus errands, etc. 

Job Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use moderate independent judgment
  • Attention to detail and time management
  • Enthusiasm about working with students as well as planning and staffing events
  • Strong IT skills including facility with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 
  • Experience with website editing and Qualtrics surveys (preferred)
  • Work-study eligibility as determined by the FAFSA (preferred but not required)

Compensation

Compensation is $16-$18/hour.

Benefits

As a student hourly employee, you are eligible for jury duty pay, sick leave, FAMLI and may be subject to enrollment in the Student Employment Retirement Plan (SERP); Optional Savings Plans 403B, 457, 401k. Sick leave accrues at a rate of 0.034 hours per every 1 hour worked. You are not eligible for fringe benefits such as vacation, unemployment, paid holiday leave and/or tuition remission.
