A Fabric That Remembers

A Fabric That Remembers Banner

A long fascination with the idea of a fabric that could measure and capture the forces upon your body (but also the forces of your body on others) has led to a series of developments of techniques for resistive force-sensing structures in fabrics. Most recently, we have created “A Fabric that Remembers" as an exhibition piece to be displayed at Accenture Labs in San Francisco. The fabric can measure how hard it is being pressed in six different locations and includes all of the circuitry required such that you can just plug it into a controller. We also wrote a networking protocol and visualizer to computational “see” the touch in real-time.
