Letters from the Advisor - March 2018

I hope you’re having a great semester filled with engagement, inquiry, and aha moments! It’s also that time of year when everyone’s (physically and mentally) preparing to take off for a well-deserved Spring Break. So, before heading out, I wanted to update and remind you about a couple of events that are happening through ASSETT.

Thank you to those who have responded to ASSETT’s CU Faculty Teaching and Technology survey. We appreciate your input as results from this survey helps inform decision-making about academic technologies on campus. An invitation was to all instructional faculty on March 19 and will remain open until the first week of April.

Please remind students and your peers to nominate a faculty member for the Excellence in Teaching with Technology award before March 31. This award is given every spring to someone who excels in classroom instruction with technology, as well as demonstrates commitment and leadership in furthering ASSETT's mission of advancing teaching and learning through technology.

The winner of the Excellence in Teaching with Technology award will be recognized at the sixth annual Teaching with Technology Symposium on Monday, April 9, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in Norlin Library's British and Irish Studies Room. The event will also feature a keynote address by Punya Mishra, Associate Dean of Scholarship & Innovation and Professor of Educational Leadership & Innovation at Arizona State University.

Visiting professor Melanie Cooper will talk about Evidence based approaches to curriculum development and assessment on Wednesday, April 4 from 3-4 pm in Porter Bio B121. Many of you have asked about the work of the Faculty Fellows. Learn about the work that Faculty Fellow, Jia Shi has done in the IPHY department to implement a program to develop learning goals for their lab courses and labs associated with core courses. Jia’s work is highlighted on page 5 of the Integrative Physiology newsletter. Enjoy your well-deserved Spring Break and I hope to see you at our upcoming events!
