What to Do After a Career Fair
Follow up
This is perhaps the most important part of attending a career fair! Recruiters have many conversations throughout the fair, so following up is vital to ensure they remember connecting with you. Send an email to the person you spoke with at the fair. Reintroduce yourself, and thank them for their time. Use your notes to recall something you discussed or enjoyed about the conversation. Let them know you’re interested in moving to the next step in the process.
Consider ways you can continue to network
Think of the career fair as the start. Continue to explore ways you can learn about companies that excited you and roles you feel you are a strong fit for. Utilize this information to grow your network and surround yourself with professionals that are working towards the same goals. Using the Forever Buffs Network is a great way to learn how others are using their degrees and gives you an opportunity to connect directly with CU Boulder alumni.
Continue to learn and engage
Career fairs are great ways to meet recruiters and learn about a variety of industries. Use this newfound information to tailor your application documents to ensure you are highlighting your relevant skills. Explore an industry or company you didn’t previously consider that you learned about at the career fair. Notice the job titles that were being used. Oftentimes, employers can have varying job titles for similar overall roles. Use your new knowledge to expand the opportunities that may be a good fit for your skills and experience.
Start preparing for potential interviews
Brush up on your interview skills, so you feel ready and prepared when recruiters reach out. Identify specific experiences that highlight your skills and strengths that you can utilize when answering interview questions. Interview prep is a great resource for practicing interviewing. Or schedule a mock interview with a career advisor so you're not scrambling to prepare when you get that call for an interview.
