Deans of Divisions

Old Main, Room 203A

Overview

Sarah E. Jackson joined CU Boulder and the College of Arts and Sciences in August 2023 and serves as inaugural dean of the division of social sciences. She previously served as the divisional dean for social sciences at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Arts and Sciences. Jackson, who was a professor in the University of Cincinnati’s Department of Anthropology and has served as that department’s head, holds a PhD and AB in anthropology from Harvard University. She is now a member of the Department of Anthropology at CU Boulder. Her commitments in leading the division of social sciences include working to elevate the contributions of the social sciences disciplines, and support the faculty, staff, and students of the division; simultaneously, to situate social sciences’ excellence within connective, interdisciplinary frameworks; and, to advance the division as an equitable and inclusive community. As an archaeological anthropologist who works in Central America, she thinks and writes about diverse perspectives on materiality and the material world; texts as active and relationally engaged elements of human experience; and non-human personhood. Sarah loves spending time on walks with her dog in beautiful places, knitting, reading novels that transport her to other places, and spending time with her kids and husband.
