Optical Engineering Specialization

Optical instruments are how we see the world, from corrective eyewear to medical endoscopes, cell phone cameras, and orbiting cameras. In this online engineering specialization, you will learn to design high performance optical systems for a wide range of applications, including lenses, diffraction gratings, and prisms.

By completing this specialization, you will be able to:

  • Specify an optical system and potential solutions to meet those specs
  • Transform layouts into optical designs including real optical components
  • Analyze your designs using an industry-standard optical design code to validate and optimize the design

Courses

  • First Order Optical System Design
  • Optical Efficiency and Resolution
  • Design of High-Performance Optical Systems

This specialization can be taken for academic credit as part of CU Boulder’s Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MS-EE) degree offered on the Coursera platform. The MS-EE is an affordable, global master's program powered by you. Learn more about the MS-EE program.
