Women & Gender Studies

Intro by Jeff Cox

  • Intro on teaching and research visioning
  • Laying out of fall work
  • Role of Committee and Report

Q. When people are talking about interdisciplinary teaching, what do they mean?

A. In general, they talking about three things:

  1. Various versions of a “parade” of professors and instructors - this has been especially useful for introductory classes where you can cover several aspects of a topic.
  2. Two professors co-teaching in the room at the same time.
  3. Remotely co-teaching with a colleague from another university.

Q. Once all the ideas are collected, what happens?

A. The committee will meet and review all the information and decide on what ideas to put forward.  We know that there will be hundreds of ideas, and we will decide on a process on how best to narrow them down. Then we will check back in with the campus to make sure we heard you correctly.

Comment:  We need to make sure that when we are talking about new ideas that we do not get rid of the things we do well.  We need to recognize and keep our current areas of excellence.
