[MUCH OF THE DISCUSSION WAS ABOUT CURRENT ISSUES IN THE DEPARTMENT; ONLY REPORTED ON AF ISSUES]
Comment: Lower disciplinary walls. Create incentives for interdisciplinary work.
Comment: Current budget model works against interdisciplinary opportunities.
Comment: New faculty are frustrated about barriers to creating communities across campus.
Comment: SCH are not a good measure of faculty work.
Comment: Budget, budget, budget: this is stopping from us being creative.
Comment: Barriers to entrepreneurial work: too few start up funds; no transparency on how funds are awarded.
Comment: Research efforts are hindered by lack of staff in academic units.
Comment: We need to decide what needs to be by departments as opposed to schools or colleges or other units. Centralizing is not always the answer.
Comment: Look at how OCG works.
Comment: If we want innovative teaching, change teaching spaces. For example, need studio spaces. Move rooms to central scheduling.
Comment: CU focuses on undergraduate education to the detriment of graduate education and research.
Comment: Avoid duplications. For example, too many units working on data science.
