  • Schedule for committee’s work

Q.  How do processes relate?

A&S is doing strategic planning.  AF is not a strategic plan.  A&S deals with the college; AF with the campus.  The two processes are still connected and are in constant conversation.

Q.  Has the feedback so far been what you expected?

We have heard some things we knew we would hear.  We have also heard exciting ideas we had not contemplated.

Comment:  The A&S commitment to compassion links with the Strategic Imperative on serving humanity.

Q.  What is the role of inclusive excellence in this process?

Inclusive excellence is both a principle and a point of discussion in the process.

Comment:  Tenure criteria need to be re-evaluated.

Comment:  The campus should make better use of visiting faculty; they can contribute to diversity.

Comment:  We need to address distance learning.

Comment:  It needs to be easier for students to double major and have more flexibility.

Comment:  AF needs to speak to our space problems

Comment:  We should expand classroom hours to make them accessible to staff.  Change hours during the day, days in the week.

Comment:  Consider a competency based model rather than a degree model.

Q.  Will AF check back with the campus before it issues its report?

            A.  Yes.  that is one reason why the committee report has been listed as due to the campus March 1 and to the Provost on April 1, so as to provide a comment period.

  • How are the SPC and AF committees tied together?
  • Are you discovering anything new in these meetings?
  • How are the committees being put together?
  • Has the tenure system been discussed?
  • What about the mix between tenure and non-tenure?
  • How are we going to go about increasing team teaching?
  • What about expanding the role of international scholars visiting campus?
  • What about offering classes specifically for those with double majors?
  • What about offering more classes at night?
  • How are the two processes going to make sure that whoever is going to be affected by the plan is actually heard?
  • Need to pay attention to accessible technology.
  • Maybe we need to do more with respect to hiring our own students (for faculty).
