Faculty Forum: First Year Faculty
A number of people came thinking the topic was different.
The first comment was on welcoming all faculty when they first arrive here—instructors as well as TTT faculty. We need a career path for instructors.
The second comment dealt with first year students. We need to make certain we are coordinating all the various programs for first year students—RAPS, first year seminars, FIGS, and whatever else we have on tap.
New faculty from industry have a difficult time figuring out how the university works.
We need more support for interdisciplinary research. We need centers and other structures beyond institutes.
We need better ways for people to find each other around mutual research interests. CU Experts is fine but we need interactions.
CU is behind in linking technology to the humanities and social sciences.
We need more ways of connecting with one another.
We need a faculty club.
The semesters are too long compared to other universities.
We need to rethink the policy for mandatory finals.
We need more grants for junior faculty.
We need a stronger partner hiring structure.
We need to make sure we are looking at what other universities are doing to move into the future.
